Big idea: “Why is Art so weird?”
In Surrealism (All Things Weird and Funny), our older artists were encouraged to tap into their ability to think laterally as part of a creative exercise. We also discussed how the absurd, the nonsensical, and the strange are common recurring themes in Surrealism, and how people often find relief from the struggles of daily life with the fantastical by transforming the ordinary into the extraordinary. Each artwork is a reflection of the artist’s own sense of humour, and their ability to make atypical connections.
