FAQ for PVs
Q: I have just submitted the PV application form. When and how do I know whether my PV application is successful?
As stated in the Parent Volunteer (PV) application form, ONLY SUCCESSFUL applicants will be informed by end of May each year (by email, school phone call or school’s whatsapp).
Q: When do I start to apply for PV?
When your child is 5 years old, parents can start to apply for PV.
Q: How can my child qualify for Phase 2B registration?
To qualify for Phase 2B, parents must apply to the school as a parent volunteer (PV) by end of February each year in which only successfully registered PV will be notified and activated for PV duties throughout the period from July on the same year to May on the following year. PV has to contribute at least 40 hours of voluntary service to the school by then.
The 40 hours of voluntary service comprises 10 hours of compulsory duties (Gate/Traffic) and 30 hours of adhoc duties.
Q: Will there be balloting in Phase 2B?
BALLOTING will take place should the number of children registered at Phase 2B exceed the number of vacancies available.
With effect from 2012 P1 Registration Exercise, Singapore Citizens (SCs) will be given absolute priority over Permanent Residents (PRs) when balloting is required.
Q: What are the terms and conditions for parent volunteer to be eligible for Phase 2B?
Terms and Conditions:
Parent volunteers must complete at least 40 hours of voluntary service comprises
at least 10 hours of Compulsory Duties (Gate/Traffic)
30 hours of Ad-Hoc/Canteen duties.
Parent Volunteers are strongly encouraged to contribute continuous service to the school during the qualifying period so as to
develop continuous personal involvement and commitment to the school by playing an active role in contributing to and improving our school;
support school’s efforts to produce well-balanced students who are not only outstanding individuals but also responsible citizens committed to serving others.
The school reserves the right to remove PVs from the Parent Volunteer Scheme under the following conditions:
If the PV is found to be negligent or acting in an irresponsible/inappropriate manner whilst performing his/her services;
If a PV fails to perform his/her services that meet the school’s expected standards;
If the PV is found to hold negative views about school’s existing philosophy, policies and programmes.
Only the parents of the child can render the service. Relatives, friends, colleagues and domestic helpers are not allowed to cover the service on behalf of the parents.
No children or accompanies should be brought along while rendering services.
No “sharing” of work between spouses and clock as “double”.
Be properly attired with appropriate clothes and footwear (No slippers or sandals without straps at school, no shorts and spaghetti straps at anytime, no high-heeled shoes at swimming complex or business shirts at camps)
Flexibility in expectation of jobs and timings as tasks are limited and school office operates on 5-day workweek.
The school shall NOT be held responsible in the event that the parent volunteer is not able to fulfill the minimum 40 hours of voluntary service and, as such, not meeting the requirement for registration at Phase 2B of the Primary One Registration Exercise.
Q: What are the compulsory PV duties and the number of hours needed? What is the role?
The compulsory PV duties are the gate/traffic duties. PVs must complete at least 10 hours of compulsory duties. Timing for Gate/Traffic duties: 6.30 a.m. to 7.30 a.m. (1 hour).
Security guards are the overall in charge of the gate/traffic duties assignment based on the manpower/traffic situation.
Traffic/Gate duties:
PVs are required to wear safety vest with reflective strips (available in General Office);
For Traffic, to station at the bus bay to channel car traffic and ensure pupils/teachers safety upon alighting from car/bus.
For Gate, to station at Gate A and ensure pupils come into school in orderly manner and ensure visitors sign in before they enter the school.
Q: If I have completed 10 hours of gate/traffic duties, can I still book/request for it?
Yes. However, as the gate/traffic duties are compulsory for all PVs, priority will be given to those who have not done/completed it.
Q: What are the adhoc duties?
Adhoc duties are duties requested during school hours, school terms and holidays by teachers/staffs to complete certain tasks within short notice. Examples of adhoc duties are
· – Library duties
· – Data Entry
· – preparing department resources for teaching and learning
· – goodies bags distribution
· – recycling projects
· – Chaperones for Local Learning Journeys
· – Chaperones for Local Camps
· – Logistic Support for Special School Events
· – Other Supports deemed fit by the school
Q: How to sign up for the Gate/Traffic duties and adhoc duties?
For Gate/Traffic duties (monthly scheduled), PV will be notified via School’s Whatsapp broadcast. A link will be provided for PV to click their preferred date within the validity period.
For Adhoc duties, PV will be individually contacted to check on their availability to do the job.
Q: How does WhatsApp Broadcast work?
WhatsApp Broadcasts are lists of recipients that our school can send regular (broadcast) messages to. With WhatsApp Broadcasts, PV cannot see other PVs in the same Broadcast List (more private and secure).
When School send a message to the broadcast list, it will be sent to all PVs in the list whose numbers were saved in our school’s whatsApp phone’s contact. All PVs MUST save the school’s WhatsApp phone# into their own handphones in order to receive the broadcast messages.
Q: Why am I not able to receive message from school regarding PV duties?
Schools announcement to all PVs are through WhatsApp broadcast. If PV is not receiving any broadcast message, please check to make sure that you have added/saved school’s WhatsApp phone number 83314214 to your contact.
