All PLDs must have the Device Management Application (DMA) installed before they can be used in school. This application ensures a safer digital environment for your child’s/ward’s learning. Installation of the DMA will be performed after the collection of the device. Students will be guided on the installation. The DMA will be funded by MOE and will be uninstalled from the device when your child/ward graduates/leaves the school.
The DMA has 3 main components which will support the effective use of the PLD in the classroom to enhance students' learning and safeguard their cyber wellness:
Classroom Management Service: To help teachers manage students’ use of the PLD during lesson time to improve classroom management and support effective teaching and learning.
Mobile Device Management Service: To help update and manage the PLD, protect the PLD from malicious software, and protects students from objectionable internet content.
Usage Management Service: To enable school and/or parents/guardians to better supervise and set helpful limits for students’ use of PLD after school.
School hours:
(Mon - Fri) 6.30 a.m. - 3.30 p.m.
For in-school use of PLDs, all schools will maintain control of DMA settings to ensure efficient use of PLDs for teaching and learning.
MOE and the school will set the level of web content filtering, including filtering objectionable content or content that may not be conducive to teaching and learning (e.g. social media, pornography, gambling, or websites containing extremist content).
The school can determine the applications and programs to be installed to support teaching and learning.
After school hours:
(Mon - Fri) 3.30 p.m. – 6.30 a.m.
(Sat & Sun) Whole day.
For after-school use of PLDs, school control of DMA settings will continue as a default.
Parents will be able to choose between two other options if these better meet their needs and preferences.
Having default school settings continue after school hours is the best option for parents/guardians who prefer not to, or do not feel ready to manage their child’s/ward’s device use on their own. Parents/guardians can request to change their choice of DMA settings at any time.
Restrictions after school follows the school hours settings (no change). Objectionable websites are blocked.
Default Option users do not have Parent DMA account
Sleep hours:
10.30 p.m - 6.30 a.m.
See guide for more information.
As part of MOE’s ongoing efforts to support students’ sleep health and in alignment with Grow Well SG, the default DMA sleep hours will be adjusted from 11pm to 10.30pm. Students on After-school DMA Parent Option A or Default option will not be able to use their PLD after 10.30pm.
Flexibility in setting additional/less restrictions than the default option for after school hours' use. Users under Option A will have additional rights to modify the restrictions.
Option A users will be assigned a Parent DMA account. Parents must create an account to log in to the Lightspeed Parent Portal, where they can manage and modify device restrictions.
Parents can set the sleep hours for their child’s device to start anytime between 7.00 p.m. and 10.30 p.m., with the sleep time ending at 6.30 a.m.
See guide for more information.
