Core Programme: ExCite
This core programme aims to challenge our KCPians cognitively through collaborative learning with the following key ideas:
Learning is driven by challenging, open-ended problems with no one 'right' answer
Problems are context-specific
Solutions to problems identified require students to use concepts they have learnt
Application of knowledge (across topics and disciplines) in new situations
Sec 1 ExCite Programme
Using scientific skills and processes, students will learn Science through creative problem-solving and be challenged cognitively through collaborative learning and teamwork. Students will explain how these methods of separation are performed in the Science Laboratory and list down some real-life applications to the identified concepts in order to solve the problem.
Problem Statement
It is the year 2050 and Singapore's water sources are running out! The Water Agreements with our neighbouring countries have expired, and our NEWater plant is undergoing construction after an unforeseen disaster. This leaves us with only 2 of our 4 national taps!
However, human activities over the years have led to the clogging of our local catchment with litter and plastic, leaving the waters stained and polluted.
A sample of the polluted water was collected. Using your Scientific knowledge and experimental skills, what steps can be taken to obtain potable water from the Polluted Water?
