The spirit of continuous learning:

As highlighted in the Home Section of this website: This is a GIS resource bank specific for teacher professional development. We hope teachers can start a journey of improving their technical knowledge and overall technical-pedagogical-content knowledge over time.

Self-directed teachers learning to use GIS can start by making simple edits to the maps found in this bank for their own classroom use. The maps are archived to function as scaffolds to aid teacher's learning in using GIS via ArcGIS Online and the levels of IT integration to consider when designing GIS-infused lessons.

Some questions to guide your learning and use of GIS:

Technical knowledge:

• Have I learnt how to change the symbols in terms of its appearance like size and color?
• Do I know how to look for available layers in Living Atlas layers within ArcGIS Online?
• Do I know how to adjust transparency?
• Do I know how to change the order of the layers and why I put them in a certain order?

Pedagogical knowledge:

• How can I modify and improve on some of the maps for my own classroom given the dynamics of a class?

Content knowledge:

• Do I understand the cause of effect of the data being represented in the maps?
• What will be useful complementary data I think students should know but is missing from the map I am starting from?

How to use this Bank:

• The topics are organised according to the levels "Lower Secondary" and "Upper Secondary". This makes it independent of the actual syllabi. At the point of construction, the 2014 Lower Secondary Geography is still in use, the topics in Upper Secondary is informed by Geography syllabus 2236/2017. For Pre-U, H1 (8813) and H2 (9751).
• The lesson plans with maps and webapps are prioritized in the pages for "Lower Secondary" and "Upper Secondary". 2017 GST NLC lesson plans without layers/maps/webapps hosted on EduGIS are grouped into "Other Resources" and archive for reference.
• Best way to navigate is to go the the level and just search the key topic worlds like "Water supply" to find the relevant resource on that level using "Ctrl-F" key to activate the find function in your browser.
