The Art Elective Programme (AEP) is designed to enable students with artistic abilities to undertake a challenging Art programme. It aims to develop students’ conceptual and analytical faculties by placing equal emphasis on both the practical and theoretical aspects of Art. Students are encouraged to explore their thoughts, feelings and ideas through a variety of art practices. Students also develop skills to make critical judgements about artworks and art practices through the study of visual arts.
The AEP is a four-year course that prepares students for the G3 Level Higher Art Examination. Students selected for the AEP will take Higher Art in place of Design & Technology and Food & Consumer Education at the lower secondary level. In the mainstream schools, AEP students are expected to complete the four-year course and offer Higher Art as a subject for examination at the SEC Level Examination.
Upon admission to the school, the students must apply for the programme at the school and must pass an internal AEP Selection Test set by the school.
For students in the G3 course:
Higher Art in the Singapore- Cambridge Secondary Education Certification (SEC) Examination is equivalent to a Humanities subject. Students who offer Higher Art will be allowed to use the Higher Art grade as a Humanities subject grade for admission to JC/MI. Due to the nature of the subject, AEP will not be offered with Computing, Malay Special Programme, Full History, Full Geography and Full English Literature at upper secondary.
For students in the G1 & G2 courses:
Students will take G3 Level Art/Higher Art as their coursework subject. Art/Higher Art will not be offered with Design & Technology and Nutrition & Food Science.
