GREW RETREAT @ KL
The visit to the WWF-Malaysia headquarters was an eye opening experience as i was able to experience what it’s like to be at the headquarters and how everyone is working hand in hand at the headquarters to help spread awareness and encourage more people to show support on their initiative on addressing environmental issues happening in Malaysia. I was amazed at what happened behind the scenes. We are not aware of how much work and effort goes into this NGO.
It takes a lot of work and effort in order to inspire younger generations as well as the government to act and support sustainability, as well as relief issues such as climate change that could lead to many devastating issues such as animals losing their natural habitat due to deforestations , aquatic life being poisoned by the water pollutants from the factories releasing toxic substances and citizen polluting the river water with garbage not only affects us as humans but the other living creatures around us. In my opinion we are not the only inhabitants of this land , we as humans should consider the animals that coexist with us as well.
Therefore, we must do our best to support such a good cause so that we could live in a better environment and also to preserve the wonders mother nature has bestowed on us.

Fasiliti Inovasi Kitar Semula (FIKS)
In my opinion, the visit to FIKS made me excited by their hard work and creativity to promote recycling practices in an effort to preserve the environment. There are many facilities available, including HUB ILMU, 3R BOUTIQUE, RECYCLING CENTER, KOC ILMU and KOC Kreative. And what caught my eye was the chair made of tetra pack. The chair is also very sturdy and environmentally friendly. It is also in line with the 3R concept of reuse.
Not only that, They also have an IRF. Integrated Recycling Facility (IRF) is a facility where recyclable items are collected, sorted and baled before being sent to major recycle for recovery processes. However, after my visit to FIKS I realized that textile is a non -recyclable material. Therefore, we should reduce the purchase of clothing which will ultimately contribute to an increase in the amount of non-recyclable waste. So we have to be wise consumers to shop.
Next, I found that the efforts they were undertaking were well received by the public. They give Mesra petronas points as gifts for those who bring recycled items such as cooking oil, boxes, plastic bottles and tetra packs as well as aluminum cans. However, there are some types of plastics that they do not accept, namely plastics that belong to types 5, 6 and 7.
In conclusion, FIKS is an ideal place to visit by those who want to deepen and learn about the environment and recycling in a fun way.

A VISIT TO SRI BESTARI PRIVATE SCHOOL
Introduction
The GREW organised a retreat to Kuala Lumpur on the 8th until 10th of June. We visited Sri Bestari Private School on the 9th. The goal of the visit was for us to benchmark and gain environmental knowledge on how they develop their creativity and innovation to achieve the green flag. Besides that, we shared each other's ideas and experiences on how to expand the project for the future generation. Sri Bestari Private School joined the Eco School in 2012 and it has been ten years since they joined. They won 3 green flags awards and 1 hibiscus award. That was a marvelous journey.
The school harvested and planted paddy plants in their respective plots. They even installed catfish and flowers in the plot. It is very attractive. There's a variety of flowers in the garden that naturally attracts butterflies. It was a beautiful biodiversity garden. In addition, the school has a place for the parents and students to put used clothes, belts or bags to reuse. The vendor will collect it and upcycle the items. The school removed rubbish bins in each class to reduce wastes. That was a creative way to reduce more wastes.
Lastly, they used papers certified by FSC to make sure there's no illegal sources that harm the environment. The teachers will be given an amount of papers to use for 2 months to reduce the paper usage. It is a great way to save the trees.

I personally enjoyed knowing more about PerKISS. This year is their 8th anniversary working with KPM. PerKISS 's motive is to motivate students and the school community to practise 3R in their daily life. Their main objective is to spread awareness among youngsters and adults to keep the environment green, clean and healthy.
This competition evaluates from certain aspects such as accumulated weight of the recyclable items collected. The commitment and initiative from the school communities in practising the 3Rs . Lastly, the creativity of the school community in producing an innovation item from the collected waste materials.
I really respect and appreciate their initiatives to sustain a green environment for the future generations. Besides, I also admire their initiatives in influencing not only the young people but the older generations to engage themselves in this mission full heartedly. I believe that by joining and running more eco programs is an alternative way to keep our mother earth happy as there is no plan B to maintain it.
