WHAT IS A RADAR CHART?
A radar chart is a graphical method of displaying multivariate data in the form of a two-dimensional chart of three or more quantitative variables represented on axes starting from the same point. The relative position and angle of the axes are typically uninformative, but various heuristics, such as algorithms that plot data as the maximal total area can be applied to sort the variables (axes) into relative positions that reveal distinct correlations, trade-offs and a multitude of other comparative measures. The radar chart is also known as web chart, spider chart, spider graph, spider web chart, star chart, star plot, cobweb chart, irregular polygon, polar chart or Kiviat diagram. It is equivalent to a parallel coordinates plot, with the axes arranged radially (Wikipedia contributors, 2024).
EXAMPLES
A radar chart, also known as a spider chart or web chart, is a graphical method used to display multivariate data in the form of a two-dimensional chart. It consists of a series of axes starting from the same point, each representing one variable. The values for each variable are plotted along its respective axis and connected to form a polygon. This visual representation helps to compare multiple variables and identify patterns, strengths and weaknesses at a glance. Radar charts are especially useful for showing performance metrics, skills assessments or any data where comparing different categories is needed.
LEARNING TIME
ACTIVITY TIME
Activity 1:
Step 1: Form a group of 5 people.
Step 2: Interview all 5th-grade students about soda intake.
Step 3: Record the information you got on a paper.
Step 4: Open Effortless Online Radar Chart Maker for Anyone on your digital device.
Step 5: Enter the information you collected into the table provided and click "plot data" to automatically form the radar chart.
Step 6: Save your final product and send it to the teacher.
Time Allotment: 2 days
Tips:
Plan interview times to avoid disrupting other classes.
Sample Questions: How often do you drink soda? / How many cans or bottles do you drink per week?
Use a table format to record data systematically.
Enter data carefully to avoid errors.
