This page contains a detailed overview of my action plan for implementing flipped learning in my teaching practice. It covers all the crucial steps and strategies I will take, from pre-class preparation to in-class activities and post-class assessments. My goal is to ensure a smooth and engaging learning experience for my students, and I will leave no stone unturned to achieve it.
ACTION PLAN
Phase 1 Preparing for Flipped Learning
First, teacher identified the class and skill/s to be taught followed by unpacking the curriculum by choosing the content and learning standards. The chosen class is English Form 5 and the topic is Unit 2: Life's Great Mysteries.
Content standard / Learning Standard
(3.1) : Understand a variety of texts by using a range of appropriate reading strategies to construct meaning
(3.1.5) : Recognize independently the attitude or opinion of the writer in extended texts on a wide range of familiar topics and some unfamiliar topics
(2.4) : Communicate appropriately to a small or large group on familiar topics
(2.4.1) : Explain the main points of an idea or argument
Next, teacher prepared a short video using Canva/Capcut and upload it on Edpuzzle. 5 questions were created on Edpuzzle to check students' understanding and readiness to learn the topic on mysteries.
Phase 2 Implementation of Flipped Learning
Teacher explains to students in class about the importance of flipped learning and assigns them a task on the English Telegram Channel.
Students need to click on the task link that will lead them to Edpuzzle webpage. They must watch the video and as they are watching it, answer five questions that consist of MCQ and open-ended questions.
Teacher encourages students by keep reminding them on the English Telegram Channel to take the responsibility in completing the task at hand.
Phase 3 In-class Activities and Engagement
Based on the short video that they have watched previously, students must match the photos to the descriptions in pairs.
In groups of 4, they now must look at Activity 1 and tick at creatures that they believe in. They must also justify their choices by giving at least 1 reason. (HOTS)
Next, for Activity 2, some groups will share their discussion with the class before continuing to discuss on whether some of the creatures are more likely to exist than others. (CBA Speaking)
Some students will volunteer to share their opinions based on the discussion.
As for Activity 3, the teacher writes 2 questions on the whiteboard. Individually, students will skim-read the text entitled 'A House of Mystery' and attempt to answer 5 questions on page 19 of their textbook followed by 2 questions written on the whiteboard. For the latter, students need to find evidence from the text. (CBA Reading)
Phase 4 Reflection and Adjustment
Once the lesson is completed, the teacher must reflect on the lesson delivery, instructions , classroom management as well as classroom-based assessment to ensure that the learning objectives are achieved.
This is helpful for teachers as it creates room for growth and improvement of similar future lessons.
Phase 5 Scaling and Integration
In this final phase of the action plan, teacher will carry out a Professional Learning Community (PLC) in school as part of the Continuous Professional Development (CPD) Programme to disseminate knowledge gained during the three-day course and to share the firsthand experience on conducting the lesson.
Follow the instructions on UNIT 7 of the training module.
