MY INQUIRY QUESTION: How can we introduce News Literacy to Journalism students in Chile in an efficient and engaging way that can lead them to become Media Literacy facilitators in their communities?
PROJECT TITLE: Introducing Media Literacy for Future Journalists in Spanish
PROJECT SUMMARY: Students will attend to a 3 hours Workshop introducing basic concepts and skills related to Media Literacy Education in Spanish (real-time learning). They will have access to resources in Spanish covering many aspects of Media Literacy for any time learning.
TEACHING GOALS: We will discuss News Literacy concepts in a Workshop linking journalism practices and media literacy concepts and skills. We will discuss potential projects to engage their communities and families.
They will have access to resources in Spanish covering many aspects of Media Literacy for any time learning that can also serve as a self-curated platform to help students share their knowledge and resources.
LEARNING OUTCOMES: They will learn the basics concepts of Media Literacy, and make links with their practices and studies of journalism, they will think of ways to approach their future audiences in a very competitive landscape.
They will have the opportunities to see experiences and material about Media Literacy, Fact checking,
TEXTS/TOOLS/TECHNOLOGIES AND RATIONALE: I will do a video with Loom and use a canva slideshow for introducing the concepts. In class we are going to use websites and social media for analyzing examples with skills and a Media Literacy framework. We will have a Padlet for anytime learning. I chose Padlet because I can use the curation platform to include Spanish Language resources and content from reliable sources and have an useful platform to consult material that is not so abundant in Spanish.
