The next part of the Read.Inquire.Write. process is where the students begin to plan their writing. They have connected with the material, analyzed texts, and seen how an argument with a counterargument should be structured. They know the reason they might use type of structure. Now they will plan their writing using a graphic organizer and the analysis notes they took on the texts.
Read through the task and then explore the items listed below.
Slides -- slides 83-86
Teacher Guide -- pages 41-45
Student Guide -- page 22-25
Social Studies Practices -- pages 100-101 (Grade 8 Practices)
Create a document in your personal folder and title it Section 7: Make Choices & Plan - [your last name, your district].
(Example: Section 7: Make Choices & Plan - Cornue, MO BOCES)
In the document you created, reflect on the following:
How well do you think your students will organize their ideas using the graphic organizer? What supports might some of them need? If they were working through their fourth Investigation instead of their first Investigation how would their skills differ? How might your expectations change?
What do you think of the guiding questions included with the graphic organizer? Would you change any of them? Add to them?
How would you ensure that students had accurate pieces in each section of the graphic organizer?
How does this connect to the Social Studies Practices?
Remember: Answer some of the questions or all of them. Add thoughts of your own.
Think of these tasks as a running professional journal.
