The Blacksburg High School Marching Band is composed of musicians and flag performers in 8th through 12th grades. During the fall marching season, roughly August through early November, we perform at BHS home football games, at marching band competitions across the region, and in a handful of local parades.
As a member of the Blacksburg High School Marching Band, you will be very busy between August and November. Being a member of marching band requires attendance at an end-of-summer marching band camp, an intensive series of day-long practices that will train you in the music and drill for our marching band season. Once school starts, practice is held every weekday but Monday from 3 to 5 p.m. Most weekends in the fall will include a football game or a band competition, maybe both.
With that high level of commitment, your Marching Band experience will teach you to work hard, persevere, and support your fellow band members, all while making a legendary show together. Marching Band is a great way to make new friends before the beginning of the school year. For rising 8th and 9th grade members, it makes the adjustment to high school easier. I encourage every student who's ever picked up an instrument to participate.
The fee to participate in marching band is $350 for musicians and color guard members. That covers uniforms, uniform cleanings, t-shirts, dinners at band camp and competitions, competition fees and transportation, instructors, music, drill, shoes, and other camp expenses.
No student will be turned away for lack of funds. Financial assistance is available to those who need it. Please contact Darrell Pearman.
We rely on parent volunteers to make our marching band season run smoothly. We hope you'll get involved with Blacksburg Band Boosters.
