Make Music Day is an annual celebration of music that takes place on the summer solstice. On Make Music Day everyone is invited to take part: performing music for others, listening to music, joining in playing music and/or hosting musical performances.
A little history: Beginning in France (1982) as the Fête de la Musique, this free music festival is now held on June 21 in more than 800 cities in 120 countries around the world. Some cities have begun the tradition of sponsoring a parallel event on December 21. Learn more at the Make Music Day U.S. heqdquarters site.

How it works: those interested in participating sign up with their local chapter of Make Music Day using an website portal - developed by the Make Music Day national office. Local STL organizers will be in touch with all those who sign up. Performers are matched with venues at a time to which both parties agree, and volunteers are mobilized to make the day a fun and memorable experience of making music!

MAAE executive director, Phyllis Pasley, and event coordinator, Marschnee Strong have teamed up to lead the Make Music Day - St. Louis team for 2024. Make Music Day - St. Louis is a part of a worldwide celebration with a focus on leveraging the power of music to bring communities together.

Make Music Day - St. Louis
A brief history...
Through the efforts of Nika Leoni and Kathy Farrazza who began Make Music St. Louis with 17 events in 2016, and grew to more than 100 events in 2019. With virtual a celebration in 2020, Make Music St. Louis re-emerged in 2021 and 2022 with 27 participants each of those years. A leadership change brought Make Music St. Louis in as a project of the Missouri Alliance for Arts Education in late 2022 in time to gear up for the festivities in 2023. Marschnee Strong leads the Make Music St. Louis team alongside MAAE executive director, Phyllis Pasley.

Please spread the word among your community of musicians!
Songwriters and composers of all kinds are invited to join Make Music Day's 2nd annual global song swap, called #MySongIsYourSong.
SONG SWAP - Sign up to learn and perform a song by another artist, and hear one of your original songs covered in return! Register by May 31st at makemusicday.org/songswap. Partners will be carefully matched and introduced the first week of June, then will share their video performances on June 21.
GLOBAL FOLK CHALLENGE - Don't write your own music? Don't feel left out! You're invited to join the Global Folk Challenge and share a folk song from your country, and in exchange, learn and perform a different folk song submitted by another participating musician. Sign up by May 14th at makemusicday.co.uk/global-folk-challenge.
