Make Music Day-St. Louis is a city-wide celebration of music that takes place on the summer solstice, June 21. Anyone and everyone is invited to either join and play music, or host performances. This free music festival first began in 1982 in France as the Fête de la Musique, and is now held on the same day in more than 800 cities in 120 countries around the world. The US Headquarters helps support events in Missouri is Liberty, Rolla, Columbia, Innsbrook, and Kansas City.
St. Louis joined the celebration in 2016 under the leadership of Founding director Nika Leoni and co-director Kathy Favazza. With changes in leadership in the fall of 2022, the Missouri Alliance for Arts Education stepped in to facilitate the grant funds received from the Regional Arts Commission, and Marschnee Strong and Phyllis Pasley assumed leadership roles. They soon reached out to others in the St. Louis Community to help bring Make Music Day 2023 into being!
