ROTUNDA PERFORMANCES Noon-1:00 p.m. - We are limited to LIVE music in the Rotunda by legislative rules. We can only perform there between noon and 1 p.m.
Choirs in the rotunda each have a 10 min time period which includes getting on and off stage and any set-up.
Please plan your music appropriately with no more than 7 minutes of actual performance.
Please review the schedule and note the times for your ensembles.
Please note the line up and stage direction notes for your group. (Stage Right is the conductors Left , Stage LEFT is the conductors Right). This is to make the file on/file off routine as efficient as possible.
Line up areas will be the museum spaces on either side of the Rotunda.
Stage Directions for Capitol
We have several large groups this year.
There will be 5 - 3 step Wenger risers in place. Please have your students in a minimum of 3 rows and a maximum of 4.
AFTER your performance your students will file on to the grand staircase (first off to the top landing level) and sit there (quietly) until the finale at the end of the concert hour. Please instruct your students to leave a space along the railing on the rotunda side...(we don't want any dangling arms or legs). They will all stand to sing the finale.
FINALE: We will be singing the arrangement of An American Hymn (America the Beautiful) by Cecil Effinger. We will sing the first and fourth verses in unison with accompaniment since we have a larger number of elementary choirs.
We will rehearse at 11:00 on the South Steps (weather permitting). Following the rehearsal, we will go inside to the Rotunda for the noon performances.
SOUTH STEPS PERFORMANCES
Each ensemble has a 10-minute block to set up, with soloists given 5 minutes. Performances are set up STAGE RIGHT. It is often windy in March, so be prepared as necessary. A sound system and keyboard will be available.
LUNCH - more details
Lunch will be served near the South Steps beginning at 1:00 p.m. (STAGE LEFT). Lunch will include pizza, bottled water, and ice cream. If the weather is bad, lunch service will be indoors. Students may eat near the service area on the steps outside, or if inside use the hallway space near the service area,or at the tables (or the areas near the tables) in the 3rd floor gallery area.
Please help us make sure we have enough food. Feel free to provide info about the number of people (audience members and performers) we can expect from your school. Let us know about any special dietary needs and we will try to make accommodations. R.S.V.P Pizza Lunch

BUSES: info from the Missouri State Museum at the Capitol
Buses and trucks/trailers should park in a lot by the Union Pacific depot....NOT AMTRAK. Take Capitol Drive to either Madison (in front of the Governor's Mansion) or Monroe. Turn left and go down the hill towards the river. It is OK to park on Madison in front of the Gov. Mansion.
CAPITOL ENTRANCE
The only access to the Capitol is through the Carriage Entrance (under the South Steps). Everyone has to go through security. Backpacks are a big hassle...have your kids leave them on the bus.
Arriving and entering the Capitol Building
Guests at the Capitol enter the building through the security checkpoint at the "Carriage Entrance" under the south steps, which can be accessed from the sidewalks at the southeast and southwest corners of the building. Entrances are staffed by Missouri Capitol Police utilizing both magnetometers and X-ray conveyors for security screening. These public entrances are also used by school groups, contract employees, special guests, members of the media and others. Learn more about Capitol security here.
(If you climb all the south stairs, you will have a great view, but you will be unable to enter the building from that location.)
Access additional parking and shuttle information.
