Orchestra

Orchestra is a full-year course. The orchestra consists of string musicians. All musicians interested may participate in the orchestra, regardless of ability level. The orchestra performs at various concerts throughout the year and gives members the opportunity to excel at their instrument(s) as well as makes them eligible to audition for district, regional, and state orchestra after their freshman year. The music performed includes standard orchestral literature, and branches into genres such as Broadway show tunes, movie soundtracks, and contemporary pieces. Students will be responsible for scheduled after school rehearsals and performances throughout the year. Please contact Mr. Olimpi for more information regarding policies, requirements, and grading procedures.

Chamber Strings

The Marple Newtown Chamber Strings is an ensemble that exists within the Marple Newtown Orchestra Program. Rehearsals are one to two times per week in the morning beginning in December and carrying through the rest of the school year. Our strongest goal is to provide an educational environment for the performer and the listener. Through rehearsals and performances, we will strive to create enjoyable performances where students can learn musicianship, responsibility, team-work and pride. Being a member requires a strong dedication to work and trustworthiness to be personally accountable for your responsibilities.
