At BRMS, like our sending schools from the district, readers and writers study these disciplines following a workshop model. Through these units, we grow our reading, thinking, jotting, discussing, and writing skills. We will focus on either reading or writing during ELA class, and have one reading and one writing unit of study per trimester. At the end of each unit, students will take a summative post assessment to measure their progress. They will write about their reading to demonstrate comphrension and progress with specific reading standards for reading units; for writing units, they will independently take a new idea suited to the genre of study through the writing process.
