This month in our classroom, we have been exploring the world of fairy tales! Students have been reading traditional fairy tales and comparing them to fractured fairy tales, stories that put a fun twist on the original versions. As we read, students are learning to identify the setting, characters, problem and solution, and the theme or message of each story. Soon, students will use what they’ve learned to write their own fractured fairy tales, and we can’t wait to see their creative ideas come to life!
We also had a special visit from musician Buddy Dubay, who came to share music and sing with us this week. It was a wonderful and engaging experience for the students.
To celebrate the upcoming season, we partnered with our Kindergarten buddies for a fun project decorating our classroom windows to welcome Spring. The students loved working together and adding colorful decorations to brighten our room.
Finally, our class has been closely following the Iditarod race in Alaska. Each student is tracking a musher and checking in daily to see their progress along the trail. Students are excited to learn about the race and what is happening along the snowy trail each day!
Conferences
If you signed up for a conference this month with me, I will be sending Google Invites. Be on the lookout!
Classroom Treats
On occasion, we might give students trident gum, tic tacs, lifesavers mints, hot cocoa, popcorn, or hershey's milk chocolate for something fun. As part of the district health protocols, we need to notify you of this. Please reach out to me if your child will need to opt out of this.
Friday Notebooks
Please make a note on your family calendar to send your child’s Friday notebook to school each Friday (or earlier if possible!). It means so much to your child to read your response and write back to you. They truly look forward to that connection every week.
