Students may keep water bottles at their desks.
Water bottles may be used whenever needed.
All other drinks may be consumed during snack time outside.
Students may get up to use the class drinking fountain any time that I'm not teaching.
Only two students may be at the sink at a time.
Students may use the restroom as needed.
Students show me the restroom signal, which is the sign language letter "R".
If I'm about to say or teach something new or important, I will ask if they can wait 2-5 minutes. If students say no, then I allow them to go.
If we are less than 5 minutes from recess, I also ask if they can until recess. If students say no, then I allow them to go.
*If I become concerned about excess bathroom use, I will contact you so we can figure it out together.
Students may bring snacks from home. The cafeteria provides snacks 4x per week.
Snacks may be eaten at mid-morning recess at the tables on the playground.
When breakfast and lunch are being served, snacks must be eaten in the cafeteria.
Due to health concerns, students may not share their snacks with others.
Please do not send candy as a snack. Students need healthy foods to keep their brains going!
*If you would like to send it a class snack for the days that the cafeteria does not provide snacks, that would be great! Please send in enough for 28 students. Thank you!😀
I truly believe kids need to play and enjoy breaks throughout the school day and research backs up that idea, so I try had to NOT miss recess. However, students will occasionally miss part of their recess (10 minutes or less) and do a written reflection if they were written up for serious behavior. You will be notified via Parent Square, phone call, or in person. Students who are more than a week behind on their nightly reading (monitored through AR points) may also be asked to use this time to catch up.
NEW California Recess Law: Commencing with the 2024-25 school year, EC Section 49056 requires local educational agencies (LEAs) that offer recess to provide recess of at least 30 minutes on regular instructional days and at least 15 minutes on early release days.
Kynoch students have 40 minutes of recess during a regular school day and 30 minutes on early release days. Therefore, if your child misses one recess, this state requirement is still met.
Student cell phones need to be on silent/off during school hours and kept in backpacks. I will give a student one warning. It will be sent to the office for parent pickup if it continues. Please take a look at the MJUSD website for the district cell phone policy.
Late classwork and homework will be accepted until one week before the end of the trimester. This allows me to get grades completed in time for report cards. Late classwork is usually not an issue because our daily job lists include fun activities that students want to participate in. I do not penalize students for missing homework, but I do expect students to do their nightly reading.
