I am incredibly excited to be joining the faculty at MCAA this year! I've been teaching since 2003 and have an extensive background in theatre arts and graphic design. I spent a good portion of my career directing the theatre program at Valley Christian Schools in San Jose where I helped create the Conservatory of the Arts program that now serves over 1000 K-12 students. Most recently, I spent five years working as an administrator at the Performing and Fine Arts Academy at Natomas Charter School. Even though I loved running a school, I always missed the classroom, especially the rehearsal hall! When the opportunity to come to MCAA arose, I knew I had to take it!
My wife and I both grew up in Yuba City. We moved back to town in 2015 and we love living in the area! We've got four kids (ages 14, 11, 9, and 4) all of whom love the arts.
I received my BA from San Diego State University with a major in Theatre Arts with an Emphasis in Performance. My Master's Degree is in Education/Instructional Technology (which included extensive study in graphic design) from San Jose State University. Over the years I've studied a variety of forms and styles of music, dance, acting, and art. I'm a huge musical theatre nerd (and have some strong opinions about certain shows and composers - we'll learn more about that later!). I've studied Stage Combat extensively and am a certified Actor Combatant through the Society of American Fight Directors.
I've been acting and directing my entire life and some of my favorite productions I've worked on are Into the Woods, She Kills Monsters, The Importance of Being Earnest, Guys and Dolls, Twelfth Night (Which I took to the Edinburgh Fringe Festival in Scotland in 2012 with a group of high school performers), Shrek the Musical, and Titanic the Musical.
