MJUSD CTE Internship Overview
By becoming a student intern, students can gain valuable work experience, learn 21st Century employability skills, and more! Schedule
Internships start on June 10th, 2024.
The first day is an instructional seminar followed by online courses through California CareerZones to be completed throughout the internship course.
The internship instructor will prepare students with career readiness guidelines, including attendance, harassment, workplace behaviors, performance expectations, etc.
The internship placement will last at least 4 weeks or 60 hours.
5 Elective credits can be earned upon internship completion.
The instructor will work with the business partner to determine work hours within the limits of Labor Laws. No more than 8 hours per day between the hours of 5am - 10pm.
The intern will be evaluated by their instructor or the Work-Based Learning Specialist once during summer session.
The intern will be evaluated by their manager once per summer session.

Student Requirements
Students must hold a 2.0 GPA or higher.
During the school year, students must enroll in the sixth period internship course, and be able to participate 6-8 hours per week.
Students must agree to behave in accordance with the employer's policies as well as adhere to MJUSD Internship guidelines.
Students must have reliable transportation to the internship class and internship site.
Students must apply to the internship program, submit a cover letter and resume, and participate in an employer interview.
Students must attend a parent orientation with their parents prior to the start of the internship.
Complete required paperwork by district deadlines.
Demonstrate employability skills such as work ethic, timeliness, attendance, professional attire, team building, etc.
Student Internship Best Practices
Wear appropriate attire, based on the company’s dress code policy.
Be professional when talking with your supervisor and other employees.
Report to work on time.
Be a good, active listener.
Ask for and be receptive to feedback.
Be open to instruction and advice.
Ask questions and engage with your supervisor to gain knowledge about your job, company, industry, and profession of interest.
Be a problem solver.
Support and collaborate with other team members.
Be eager to learn and show initiative.
Follow through on your commitments, completing projects within assigned timeframes.
Present needs in an articulate way.
Exhibit a professional attitude.
Maintain confidentiality.
Write and send thank you notes to your supervisor and other employees that you worked with during the internship.
