PROJECTS & INITIATIVES

CACSS focuses on projects designed to improve the work of those who coach, train coaches and conduct and support research related to coaching and coach development. The Center highlights projects that promote multiple aspects of applied coaching science simultaneously. The list of project below are those that are current; for a list of past projects completed by the Center click the button below.

The CACSS research team is working to develop a comprehensive list of youth sport activities in Monongalia County that will allow families to explore and understand the wide range of options in recreational and youth competitive sport opportunities in and around Morgantown, WV. As the project grows, the database of area programs will also include key information about inclusion policies, coaching standards and program alignment with the standards for youth sport development.

National Sport Census & National Coaching Report

In a combined effort with the United States Center for Coaching Excellence, the CACSS is developing a United States National Sport Census and a National Coaching Report. The inaugural report is set to be released in September 2021. This report is designed to serve as the foundation of a long term project that will provide an overview of the complex landscape of sport in the United States and the sport leadership organizations that play a role in coaching education, development and support across sports contexts from youth through the Olympic and professional level.

Coaching and Sport Psychology Journals

In a follow-up to Sheehy, Dieffenbach, and Reed (2019), we are completing a meta-analysis of sport psychology journal articles that discuss coaches or sport coaching.

Morgantown Hockey Association Grant

Grant helped to fund a graduate assistant to oversee player and coach development in the Morgantown Hockey Association and WVU's Men’s D1 Hockey. This partnership focused on building the grassroots base of hockey in Morgantown, collaborating with the community, and providing an alternative avenue to sport for all via the Morgantown House League, Learn to Skate, and the Little Penguins program.

CACSS has developed a database of individuals at WVU who conduct research and provide services related to sport and sport coaching.
