Jackson’s work ethic, commitment, and desire to be the best at what he does have made him not only the most dominant wrestler I’ve ever coached, but one of the most exceptional student-athletes to come through Lowell’s storied program. He is a four-time individual state champion and a four-time team state champion — accomplishments that alone speak volumes. But what truly sets Jackson apart is the way he made history: pinning or tech falling every single opponent at the individual state championships. No one in Michigan High School Athletic Association history has ever done that — until Jackson.
He approaches the sport with unmatched intensity, grit, and drive. He understands the grind, embraces the pressure, and always finds a way to rise to the occasion. But Jackson’s impact doesn’t stop when he steps off the mat. He is a servant leader who sets the tone for everyone around him. Whether it’s staying after practice to help a teammate, leading by example, or encouraging underclassmen, Jackson holds himself and others to the highest standard — not because he wants the spotlight, but because he wants the team to succeed.
One moment that speaks to the heart of who Jackson is came when he encouraged a student with autism to join the wrestling team. That act of kindness transformed that student’s life and left a lasting mark on our program. Jackson doesn’t do things for credit, he does them because it’s right. That’s the kind of leader and person he is.
Jackson has been the face of our team, a fierce competitor, and a quiet force of leadership. He’s helped shape a culture of excellence, respect, and unity — not just in the wrestling room, but in our school and community. He’s left a legacy here that will be talked about for years, and there’s no doubt he’ll continue to do great things in life and in sport.
Jackson Blum is everything you want in a Michigan High School Athlete of the Year — relentless, humble, team-first, and driven to make a difference. He’s carried the Lowell name with pride and purpose, and we expect nothing but continued excellence from him at the next level.
