Fifth Grade FAQs (last updated 2022)
Homework is typically work that was not completed in class, preparation for new lessons, such as reading a chapter ahead of time, or family cooperation activities (such as for the "culture project). Students have access to their Google Classroom accounts from any internet-connected device and may use the "To Do" button to look for all assigned and missing work.
They may also copy a list from the Homework Chart, which is posted at the front of the class during pack-up time, on "Other Subjects and Useful Info" in Google Classroom, and right here.

Smartwatches have become a distraction in the classroom with students accessing apps or communicating with one another and outside the classroom. Please take a moment to review the following from the Parent Student Handbook for 2022-2023.
Students’ electronic devices including and not limited to cell phones, iPods, MP3 players, handheld gaming systems, handheld readers, smart watches, or any other device that allows internet access should never be seen, heard, or used at school unless an IEP stipulates. Students should keep their devices in their backpacks and turn them off. If a student is using a device at school at any time, the device will be confiscated, and the student’s parent will need to come to the school office to collect the device.
Hello 5th Grade Families,
Welcome to the new school year at MITCH Charter School. My name is Nicole Wong and I am the music teacher here at MITCH. The first week of school has been amazing and the students have enjoyed the music room and meeting Hammy (the hamster) and Comet (beta).
Our Music theme for this year is Dream Big and Reach for the Stars. In our music class each student should feel welcome to be themselves and work towards their own personal goals and as well as class goals. Having big dreams and reaching for the stars by doing their best will help the students in school and throughout their lives.
In the 5th Grade Music Class the students will explore a mix of genres including Jazz, Classical, Modern, Film, Indigenous and World Music. We also learn about composers including Vivaldi, Beethoven, Williams, Gershwin, Zimmer and Haydn. The students will have a chance to explore several different instruments and learn to play the piano, the ukulele, the marimba and the drums. In 5th Grade the students explore the Physics of Music and learn about Music Technology. Music theory and notation is a big part of our curriculum which gives the students the skills to read and write music. Students will explore the Elements of Music, Treble Clef, Bass Clef, Major Scale (C,F,G) and learn how to create chords. Students will also write music, edit music and make observations about music selections.
We will also explore theater in 5th Grade with fun stories that we act out with props and with the art backdrops that we create. The fall and spring skits will be recorded at school and sent home to the 5th Grade families for viewing. The video links will expire within 2 weeks and please do not share them. On May the 5th at 5:30pm, the 4th-5th grades will put on a school program together in the gym that will be open for families to attend.
We are excited for an amazing year here at MITCH. Let’s all…DREAM BIG and REACH FOR THE STARS!
