Mentoring is a valuable professional and career development opportunity for MIT staff. A mentoring relationship benefits both the mentee and the mentor.
For Mentees: Do you wish to find a mentor but don't know how to begin or where to go? Are you clear about why a mentor would be of value for you?
For Mentors: Are you open to the idea of serving as a mentor? Do you feel you have something to offer others who seek guidance in their career at MIT? How do you learn to become an effective mentor?
Come join the conversation. The learning objectives include:
Clarify the differences among mentoring, coaching, and counseling
Identify your purpose for wanting a mentor or becoming a mentor
Discuss how mentoring relationships can occur naturally
Determine how to identify a potential mentor
Underscore the effectiveness of asking vs telling in a mentoring relationship
Review the Learning Zone perspective and why it matters to mentees and mentors
You will find value in this interactive session whether you aspire to become a mentor/mentee or have some experience and want to refresh your ability.
