2023 National Consultation
2023 National Consultation
On September 29-30, 2023 the Filipino-Chinese Apostolate held its annual meeting at Xavier School in Greenhills, San Juan City. It was attended by the delegates from the different schools, parishes, and institutions related to the Chinese-Filipino Apostolate. The Lorenzo Ruiz Mission Society and the Lorenzo Mission Institute participated in that important event. The updating of the Filipino-Chinese Apostolate highlighted the challenges of the influx of new Chinese migrants in the Philippines that form a new cultural identity. They are called the xin chiao. It is important that the Church has to find ways in order to evangelize them. In fact, one of the ways was to apply the method used by Alpha.org which fosters group dynamics to build relationships with people of different walks of life and seeking new ways of evangelization. Fr. Aristotle Dy, SJ and the others speakers like Elizabeth Lopez who is the Regional Development Director said that the people today especially the young are no longer event oriented but relationship oriented. The talks encouraged the participants to search for more effective ways to evangelize by seeking new relationships with different people especially the Chinese-Filipinos in the Philippines.
2012 National Consultation
The 2012 National Convention of the Filipino-Chinese Apostolate focused on the New Evangelization among the ethnic Chinese in the Philippines. There is a need of the new evangelization in three major areas of the Filipino-Chinese Apostolate namely: 1) there is a growing number of influx of Chinese coming from Mainland China and how to evangelize them; 2) there is lack of "Chineseness" of local born Chinese in the Philippines and ever growing more "Filipinoness" than carrying in themselves the Chinese culture; 3) there is a need to support vocations to the priesthood and religious life for the new evangelization. The 2012 National Consultation was done on August 29-31 and was concluded and highlighted with the priestly ordination of Fr. Jomar Burgos, LRMS.
