Variables in Games
Lesson 1: Introducing Variables
Learning objectives:
I can explain that the way a variable changes can be defined
I can identify that variables can hold numbers or letters
In this unit, Year 6 will be learning how to create a game, using the Scratch program.
In lesson 1, We looked at variables. We looked at examples of real-world variables (score and time in a football match) before exploring them in a Scratch project. We then designed and made our own projects that included variables.

Lesson 2: Variables in Programming
Learning objectives: To explain why a variable is used in a game.
In this lesson we learnt how to name and change the value of a variable. Then, we created a scoreboard using a scratch template. We created a scoreboard that changed its value when the sprite was clicked. We also named the variables.

Lesson 3 : Improving a game
Learning objectives: To choose how to improve a game by changing variables.
Today I learnt how to change the variable. I also learnt how to set the score to zero, in a game. I experimented with code, that allowed a change when the score reached a certain number. In addition, I looked at what happened, when the score was set to change in minus numbers.

National story week is so fun because you get to create your own story and edit it on Google docs.

We also continued with our coding lessons. This week we thought about our design for creating a catching game.
We then started creating our games.
