Year 3
Unit 3: Sequencing Sounds
In this unit the children will be introduced to a new programming environment: Scratch.
Learning objectives: Find inside each lesson plan
Photos: Make sure children can be photographed for external purposes because this Google Site will go live at the end of the half term
Evidence: screen grabs or links to children's work, children's voice
Lesson 1: Introduction to scratch
In this lesson the children began by comparing Scratch to other programming environments they may have experienced, before familiarising themselves with the basic layout of the screen.
Our task this lesson was to:
Add at least two new sprites
Add at least two new backdrops
Add ‘move commands’ to each sprite
In this lesson, the children created movement for more than one sprite. In doing this, they designed and implemented their code, and then created code to replicate a given outcome. Finally, they experimeted with new motion blocks.
In this lesson, the children were introduced to the concept of sequences by joining blocks of code together. They also learned how event blocks can be used to start a project in a variety of different ways. In doing this, they applied the principles of design to plan and create a project.
