English Language Arts & Reading

Week of September 14th:

This week, we will continue working on Unit 1: " How Can a Place Affect Where we Live?" 

Phonics: Students will review decoding and spelling words open & closed syllables and long and short 'a' .

Grammar: Students will be identifying run-on sentences and fragments while making corrections to build sentences.

Reading: Students will read a passage "The United States Consitution" and identify the central/main idea, author's purpose, text Features, and text structure to accuratly answer questions and provide text evidence as a review for distict CBA on Wednesday.

Writing: Students will be writing their own personal narrative 

Social Studies: Students will observe celebrate freedom week to include: Declaration of Indepedence, Constitution, and Bill of Rights.

Week of September 7th:

This week, we will continue working on Unit 1: " How Can a Place Affect Where we Live?" 

Phonics: Students will be reading and spelling words contacting long and short a (ai, ay, eigh)

Grammar: Students will be identifying run-on sentences and fragments

Reading: Students will read a passage "Life at the Top" and identify the author's purpose for writing the passage and the different text stuctures within the text. 

Writing: Students will be writing their own personal narrative about their favorite field trip.

Social Studies: Students will observe celebrate freedom week. 

Week of August 31st:

This week, we will continue working on Unit 1: " How Can a Place Affect Where we Live?" 

Phonics: Students will be reading and spelling words contacting r-controlled vowels

Grammar: Students will be identifying run-on sentences

Reading: Students will read " Reaching for the Moon" by Buzz Aldrin and discuss components of Narrative Nonfiction - Autobiography. - We will be focusing on determining the Author's Purpose.

Writing: Students will be writing their own personal narrative 

Social Studies: Students will be learning about the different regions of Texas, the plants, animals, & weather of the regions. They will also learn and discuss the different tribes from the region and the economy.

*Map Testing is on Tuesday and Wednesday for Reading and Math.

Week of August 24th:

This week, we will continue working on Unit 1: " How Can a Place Affect Where we Live?" 

Phonics: Students will be reading and spelling words contacting r-controlled vowels

Grammar: Students will be identifying the subject and predicate in sentences and construct their own.

Reading: Students will read " Reaching for the Moon" by Buzz Aldrin and discuss components of Narrative Nonfiction - Autobiography. 

Social Studies: Students will be learning about the different regions of Texas, the plants, animals, & weather of the regions. They will also learn and discuss the different tribes from the region and the economy.

Week of August 17th:

This week we will be starting Unit I exploring the concept "How Can a Place Affect Where We Live?" The students will be decoding multi-syllabic words with closed syllables; open syllables, use context within and beyond a sentence to determine the relevant meaning of unfamiliar words or multiple-meaning word, and writing responses that demonstrate their understanding of texts that includes them comparing and contrasting ideas across a variety of sources. The students will use text evidence to support their answers.
