Reflection ● What sounds did you notice in the room, outside the room or in your own body?
● What did you notice about how you felt when you practiced listening mindfully?
● Who can share an example where it would be helpful for you to listen to
sounds this past week?
● When would be a good time this week you could practice listening mindfully?
● Optional: Clapping game- repeat clapping rhythm of counselor. Begin with
simple patterns of two claps, then three claps, and so on. Create patterns as
well.
Concepts ● Mindful listening is paying attention on purpose to what we are hearing.
● Learning to pay attention on purpose to one of the five senses, such as
listening to sounds, is a proven way to train the mind to pay attention on
purpose.
● Each time we practice paying attention on purpose, we are strengthening the
networks involved in voluntary regulation of attention.
