On October 12th, at South Division, MPS held a Hispanic Heritage Month celebration with the theme "The Music That Unites Us"/ "La Música que nos une"
"Cultural displays about Spanish speaking countries" were created by 17 different schools in the district. Colombia, Costa Rica, Cuba, the Dominican Republic, Ecuador, El Salvador, Guatemala, Mexico, Nicaragua, Puerto Rico, Spain, and Venezuela were all celebrated (mps.com).
This was the 2nd year MSL has participated in the event. Many of our staff and students helped to organize and decorate at South, and Ms. Navarro and Mr. Bernal made authentic foods to share. Ms. Narvarro said they made empanadas with cheese and chicken. They also made arepas made of corn and cheese, deditos with cheese, and maracuya (passion fruit) juice. MSL students worked with Ms. Navarro and Ms. Rodriguez to put together a presentation on Colombia. Their boards showed music, the most important people from the country, the symbols, food, and also objects from Colombia that represents the culture.
Thank you all who helped out and congratulations on an excellent job representing the HAWKS!

Festival of Nations is Milwaukee School of Language's annual Spring Open House. After it's 3 year hiatus, thanks to COVID, we are finally back up and swinging! Since our school is full of different languages and cultures, it's a perfect event to host and showcase all the diversity, projects, and creativity this school has to offer.
This year's theme was "Festival of Culture" where we all came together as a family to create an immersive experience of culture, food, fun, and celebration of our student's successes.
It's a time when clubs, teachers, departments, grade levels all came together to come up with ideas that would showcase their talents of their community. Spread out among the whole school, there will be interactive exhibits like "Autism around the World", "Science around the World", and exhibits that showcase African American, Asian, Hispanic, and Native American cultures.
MSL Staff and Students are excited to once again bring back this incredible event to showcase all that MSL is and has to offer for current and future families as well as the community. Don't forget to keep in touch and come back next year! Check out some pictures below of some of the showcases the students and staff put together.
