The Boston Celtics and Boston Bruins both are in the playoffs. The Boston Celtics are playing the Philidalphia 76ers and the Bruins are playing the Buffalo Sabers. The Boston Celtics are looking to make a championship run, similar to 2024 when they won the NBA championship. The Bruins look to go back to the Stanley Cup Final for the first time since 2019. Both teams are in the middle of first round matchups with the Celtics leading the series 3 games to 2. The Bruins are behind in the series 3-2.
This month the animal is: Bunnies!🐇
Bunnies have teeth that never stop growing. They can see almost 360 degrees around them. Their long ears help them stay cool. A baby rabbit is called a kit. Happy bunnies perform a jump called a binky. They are crepuscular, meaning they are most active at dawn and dusk. Rabbits are not rodents; they are lagomorphs. They eat mostly hay, not just carrots. Bunnies are very social and like having friends. They are clean animals and groom themselves like cats.
This month the animal is: Hedgehogs!🦔
Hedgehogs have 5,000 to 7,000 spines made of keratin. They roll into a tight ball to protect their bellies. These mammals are nocturnal and travel far for food. They have poor eyesight but a great sense of smell. Hedgehogs are lactose intolerant, so never give them milk. A group of hedgehogs is called a prickle. They eat garden pests like slugs and beetles. Some species hibernate during the cold winter months. They "self-anoint" by spreading frothy saliva on their quills. In the wild, they typically live 2 to 5 years. . Sonic the hedgehog was almost a rabbit named “Feel” or a character called Mr. Needlemouse before Sega decided on his iconic look.
Recently the Red Sox made some big moves, firing their long time head coach, Alex Cora and other members of the coaching staff. This took place after the Red Sox had started the season 10-17 and placed last in their division so far. The Red Sox will now be coached by Chad Tracey, former Worcester Red Sox manager. I look forward to the Red Sox season, hoping to turn the season around and win some more baseball games.
On April 16, Glover had an author visit. But not just any author; he’s written The Curious Garden, Children Make Terrible Pets, and The Wild Robot! Peter Brown! Mr. Brown writes and illustrates his books. He lives in New Hampshire and loves writing about nature. Glover students were so lucky that they got to have a live drawing of The Wild Robot! His book even got to be made into a movie (I loved it)! Mr Brown also told us about his progression from just a kid who loved drawing, to a famous author. He showed a couple of childhood drawings. One was named Blue Horse. Guess what animal it was? Then Peter Brown showed his college drawings. They were amazing!
A couple questions asked by Glover students were very interesting and creative. Do you have any tips for young authors? What new books are you working on? What’s your favorite book that you've written? His favorite book is the first book he made, Flight of the Dodo Bird (sadly, it is out of print). He is currently working on a few projects that will be announced soon! Overall, it was an amazing author visit! Thank you Peter Brown!
On Thursday, the week before February Break, Glover had its very own Olympic visitor! Isabelle Kingolving Farrar, Celeste’s (Grade 4) mom, was part of the 2004 US Olympic sailing team in Athens, Greece! She placed fifth in her event. Isabelle also won the 2008 sailing World Championships! She talked to Glover Kids about how everyone should follow their dreams no matter how big or small they are. Isabelle also said that she had so much fun at the Olympics! She said that she stayed at a hotel in the Olympic Village only for US athletes. The village also had a cafè serving only healthy foods (but there was a Mcdonalds too, of course). It was so fun having you, Isabelle! Thank you!
Speaking of the Olympics, the 2026 Winter Olympic Games just finished! The last event was the Men's Ice Hockey, in which the US beat Canada in overtime. Norway has the most medals, while the US sits in second. Johannes Høsflot Klæbo made history when he won his 6th gold medal this Olympics, the most ever in one Winter Olympics. It was his 10th overall, being the only person to hit double digits in golds, besides Michael Phelps. Mikaela Shiffrin won a gold medal in Slalom, her first in 8 years. Franjo von Allmen of Switzerland won three gold medals: Downhill, Super-G, and Team Combined. In cross country skiing, a native wolfdog, Nazgul, went for gold as he raced down the track. Let’s go Nazgul!

As the Olympics came to an end, Team USA finished up their most successful Winter Olympics ever, winning the most gold medals that they have ever won. Team USA won 12 gold Medals. These medals included Gold medals in Skiing, Speed skating, figure skating, ice hockey, and bobsledding. They also won 12 Silver medals and 9 Bronze Medals. They won Gold in the team figure skating event. Jordan Stolz, a Team USA speed skater had the most individual medals at the olympics as he finished with 2 gold medals and one silver. Team USA now looks forward to the 2028 Summer Olympics, being held in Los Angelas California!!
On Thursday, FEB 26, all of Glover had a special presentation! Every grade gathered in the cafeteria to witness….DRUMMING! Mr. Coley showed us various instruments, called up volunteers, showed us how to play certain things, taught us some songs, and even had some kids dance the hula. Mr. Coley taught some kids to play maracas and drums. He also told us the history of each and every instrument. It was like history class. He was so kind and definitely FUN! That presentation was a blast! Each instrument was from a different culture and area around the world. A lot of the instruments were from African and Middle Eastern Cultures. Overall, the presentation was a lot of fun and we all learned a lot!

Last Saturday we had an arctic blast coming from the north. Temperatures dropped, with a low of 5℉ and extraordinary wind chills made it feel like -14℉! Then, on Sunday, we had a giant snow storm bringing in 18 inches of snow, with 5 and half inches on Monday.
“The storm this past Sunday and Monday was the 3rd greatest snow storm for the month of January and was the 10th greatest snowstorm all-time going back to 1885,” said Matthew Douglas, Chief Weather Observer at the Blue Hill Observatory.
It is a very rare thing that an arctic blast hits at the same time as a colossal snow storm like this. The snow storm brought the most snow for the Boston area in 4 years. Kids did not have school on Monday and Tuesday because of the storm at Glover and many other schools. Meanwhile the storm affected many places across the country including Denver (Let’s go Patriots!). Lots of people were out shoveling on Monday. Some kids probably had a chill day because of the snow. Other kids built snowmen and made snow angels. This weekend many grocery stores were packed with people who were trying to stalk up on food. Make sure to get enough food for a month!
“As excited as the kids are for the snow day, the teachers are too!” Said Mrs. McDavitt, Glover School principal. “After all these years, when I get the text from the Superintendent that school is canceled, I go right back to being a little kid, sledding and drinking hot cocoa! I know we won’t love it in June but right now, there’s something magical about a snow day!”
Everyone was hyped about the snow day, teachers included! In all Milton got 23 and a half inches of snow! I hope everyone had a fun time in the snow storm!
Wolves!🐺
by Celia Nobrega
Wolves are the largest members of the dog family. They live and hunt in groups called packs. Most packs have about 6-10 wolves. Wolves work together to hunt big animals like deer and elk. They have a very strong sense of smell and great hearing. A wolf can sprint as fast as 38 miles per hour. Wolves howl to talk to each other, not at the moon. You can hear a wolf howl from up to 10 miles away. An adult wolf has 42 strong teeth. Wolf babies are called pups and are born in the spring. All the adults in a pack help take care of the new pups. Wolves usually live 6 to 8 years in the wild.

The Patriots are going to the Super Bowl! They beat the Broncos 10-7. The Patriots are facing the Seahawks in Super Bowl 60 on February 8th in Santa Clara California. Drake Maye had an excellent game running into the end zone for the only Patriots touchdown of the game. He also rushed for the last first down to win the game. The Pats defense was really good, Christian Gonzalez had an interception at the end of the game. Mike Vrabel turned this team around from a 4-13 team to a Super Bowl contender. Vrabel could also be the first person to win a Super Bowl with the same franchise both as a player and a coach. Before the AFC Championship Broncos star quarterback Boe Nix broke his ankle. Jarred Stidham played for the Broncos against the Patriots. The Patriots look to win their 7th Lombardi trophy, which would break the tie with the Steelers for the most Super Bowls from a single franchise.
The Seahawks are also familiar with the Super Bowl as they have been in three Super Bowls and have won one title. This game comes as a rematch from the 2014 season, which was capped off by the famous Malcom Butler interception that won the Patriots the Super Bowl.
