Every year, Glover has a special tradition. It’s called the duck walk. You see, Mallard ducks live in Turner’s Pond and they need a place to nest. Glover’s Outdoor Classroom provides the perfect place to nest. Mallard mothers nest for about 28 days and lay one egg a day for two weeks. Then they go to the squatting period where they just sit there and wait. Once all the eggs have hatched they leave. Except there’s one problem. The babies can’t fly. So Mother Mallard has to lead her babies through the school to the pond. This year we’ve had two duck walks. This year momma had 11 ducklings (all extremely cute!). They waddled through the school with their tiny legs as all the students watched in total silence. It’s a special thing that only happens at Glover. Dr. McDavitt usually knows for a while and informs Glover students on the Morning Announcements but this year the ducks totally came out of the blue! They're ready when they're ready! It’s such a cool thing that we have and I’d like to say that our teachers and staff do so much to make it happen! I hope we have another duck walk this year!
