Josh Winchowski closes out the game for Boston completing a double header sweep on Sunday September 22nd
The Boston Red Sox have had a rough couple of seasons lately with most concerns being the pitching, and errors in the field. Both 2023 and 2024 the Red Sox have been in the bottom two teams for fielding percentage, with Boston having 111 errors already this season. As far as pitching goes, the numbers aren't too bad with the Sox being 14th for most runs given up this season. But as the season went on there were games that either started off by giving a ton of runs or games that were close until a later inning until we decided to give up a ton of runs. I think before the season started the exceptions from fans and the media were very low considering how little they spent in free agency, but also the fact they got rid of some of their core guys in Alex Verdugo, Justin Turner and Adam Duvall. Of course these weren't all star players, but they were role guys who would score runs in tough situations. It seems like this year our pitching wasn't that bad, if we added more guys during free agency, especially some starters we probably could of been a playoff team. But on the other hand of that, you have a lot of young talent in Ceddanne Rafaela, Connor Wong, Emanuel Valdez and Wilyer Abreu who got to get more reps this year which is a good thing. As for now (9/26/24) the Sox are 80-79, but were officially eliminated last night following their 6-1 loss against the Blue Jays. I think the Sox should prioritize more money into starting pitching next year during free agency, as the offensive talent has been slowly improving. here is a list of some 2025 MLB free agents I think the Red Sox should sign.
