AP STATISTICS
About AP Statistics
The AP Statistics course introduces students to the major concepts and tools for collecting, analyzing, and drawing conclusions from data. There are four themes evident in the content, skills, and assessment in the AP Statistics course: exploring data, sampling and experimentation, probability and simulation, and statistical inference. Students use technology, investigations, problem solving, and writing as they build conceptual understanding.
Skills You'll Learn
Selecting methods for collecting or analyzing data
Describing patterns, trends, associations, and relationships in data
Using probability and simulation to describe probability distributions and define uncertainty in statistical inference
Using statistical reasoning to draw appropriate conclusions and justify claims
Prerequisites
Algebra 2 or Advanced Quantitative Reasoning
College Course Equivalent
The AP Statistics course is equivalent to a one-semester, introductory, non-calculus-based college course in statistics.

Teacher Corner
The AP Statistics course prepares students for the rigors of college statistics and research. It enables students to look at scholarly work and understand the analysis made to determine statistical evidence. In this course, students will learn about types of research, one and two variable relationships, and how to use confidence intervals and significance tests to evaluate gathered data. For those going into an engineering major in college it is likely you will have to take a calculus based statistics course. AP Statistics at Milford high school will set you up for success in that course. For most other majors requiring a course in statistics (and most do now), a successful score on the AP exam is likely to relieve students of that college requirement.
