All public schools in Milford have organizations in which interested and involved parents and teachers can come together and participate in activities that support students. Among the most prevalent are the Parent Teacher Association (PTA) and the Parent Teacher Organization (PTO). Although the type of work accomplished within each PTA or PTO may differ from school to school, the common goal of all units is to partner with our schools and support programs for our children and their families. Additionally, relating specifically to the PTA, the groups work to make their voices heard through powerful political alliances on the state and federal levels in the areas of educational and child welfare issues.
At the high school level, parents have many opportunities to become involved. Each school has a robust Sports Booster Club, designed to support their athletic teams. Beyond athletics, there are parent groups for several other interests at the high school level, such as Band Parents, Drama Club Parents, and many others. Fundraising projects, volunteer-associated needs, and helping run events are a few examples of the work the parent groups do to provide additional tools and resources to our schools and teams. Parent involvement is welcome and encouraged.
The Milford PTA Council serves as the district-wide organization where each individual parent-teacher chapter in Milford is represented by a school delegate or designee. Work conducted here includes the collaboration and development of strategic programs for the betterment of the entire district. A unified platform of issues to be brought to the state and federal level is created here, as well.
The Milford PTA Council meets monthly (with a few exceptions due to holidays, etc.). Delegates from each school attend, as well as the Council’s Executive Board Members and the Milford Board of Education PTA Liaison. Here is the meeting schedule.
