Facilitators serve as a role model, mentor, and adult who provides safe boundaries and maintains seminar rules. The facilitator focuses on “unpacking” the students’ experience and helping them relate it to their lives and ambitions.
Be enthusiastic. You’re part of a select group of leaders. Most importantly, you’re a role model for our students.
Be available. Applying to staff our seminar means you anticipate being available for the duration of the weekend.
Exceptions (including late arrivals and early departures) will only be made in unusual circumstances.
Be responsive. When a director or the leadership seminar chairwoman contact you with a request, please try to respond within 48 hours.
Be transparent. Be open and honest about conflicts and status updates. We are here to help you!
Be mindful. You are the responsible adult at all times, and this means creating safe boundaries, maintaining and enforcing rules, and being a strong support for ambassadors.
We have set a goal for our facilitators to raise $500 collectively (which amounts to about $50 per facilitator). We would be honored and greatly appreciative of your fundraising efforts and/or donations to Michigan HOBY!
This is IMPERATIVE as it helps us keep track of who we need to send thank-you cards to, and it also lets us know which organizations and businesses you've already approached for donations so that we don't double-ask them. Log this info regularly using the "Log Your Fundraising Here" button!
When you receive donations or have money to send in, please mail it ASAP to:
MI HOBY
PO Box 230064
Grand Rapids, MI 49523
Make any checks out to: HOBY Michigan
Sending this money to us as early as you can helps us plan for our budget for seminar and best estimate how many resources we have to work with.
After you log your donation in the Google Form, you can choose to PayPal it to us instead of sending a check:

Junior Staff Fundraising Ideas: more than 60 ideas for ways you can raise money!
One of the biggest things you can do as a staff member to keep HOBY fun, engaging, and memorable for ambassadors (and give yourself and energy boost, too!) is to lead cheers! Our junior staff are primarily responsible for this VERY IMPORTANT part of HOBY Culture, but we encourage you to learn the cheers and participate enthusiastically! Singing silly songs and loud cheers is not only a little (or a lot!) wacky, but it also helps our ambassadors come out of their shells faster and break down some of the walls they might have up, and they will look to their facilitators as role models to open up and be silly.
Study these cheers (linked through the "Cheer Book!" button) and come prepared to have tons of fun singing and cheering at seminar!
Shhhh....it's a secret! This is one of our funnest traditions at MI HOBY! You'll be matched with a "secret Santa" buddy, which you can surprise with some treats or small gifts throughout the weekend, and you'll receive some treats as well! On the last day of seminar, you'll give your Secret HOBY your gift in person so they know it was you!
You'll receive more information about participating in Secret HOBY as seminar gets closer.
