Thank you for your interest in becoming a preceptor for Midwives College of Utah. The profession of midwifery relies heavily on practicing midwives to share the skills, values and clinical knowledge to the next generation of midwives.Preceptors are responsible for instructing distance education students through their clinical work. This instruction is varied and includes direct instruction, modeling, coaching, and facilitation.
MCU Preceptors and MCU students have consistent contact throughout their entire clinical placement. Students should receive feedback and skills sign-off in a timely manner from MCU Preceptors. Ideally students are progressing through clinical skills congruent with their studies so they may link their didactic education with clinical field training.
The preceptor role is a challenging one; balancing professional responsibilities, instructional responsibilities and personal relationships.
