The profession of midwifery relies heavily on practicing midwives to share the skills, values and clinical knowledge to the next generation of midwives. The Midwives College of Utah approves volunteer preceptors for instructing distance education students through their clinical work. This instruction is varied and includes direct instruction, modeling, coaching, and facilitation.
Midwives College of Utah (MCU) is proud to be a leader in midwifery education, offering unique degree programs that meet and exceed MEAC and ICM requirements. Our educational pathway is designed to cultivate intellectual curiosity, spark passion, and expand future professional options as the CPM credential expands. MCU is a MEAC accredited institution.
MCU Preceptors and students have consistent contact throughout their entire clinical placement. Students should receive feedback and skills sign-off in a timely manner from MCU Preceptors. Ideally students are progressing through clinical skills congruent with their studies so they may link their didactic education with clinical field training.
The preceptor role is a challenging one; balancing professional responsibilities, instructional responsibilities and personal relationships.

Tuition Waiver Benefit
Reduced fee CEU modules
Monthly CPM category 2 CEUs
Each MCU preceptor is eligible to receive a tuition discount based upon requirements under which they qualify. The purpose of the tuition benefit for preceptors is two-fold: 1) To retain the best and brightest preceptors (field faculty) and 2) To advance the skill sets of current preceptors and invest in their professional development; when preceptors are nurtured personally, they in turn advance institutional goals professionally.
SOSC 1010 and SOSC 2010 are NOT eligible for the tuition waiver benefit.
Each month MCU preceptors meet to discuss challenges of the preceptor journey. These monthly discussions may include, Critical Conversations, Skill Development, Charting and Chart Review with students, Adult Education, among other topics. Join us for a chance to connect and learn from each other.
