My name is Jamie Davison-Ortiz, and I am a birth doula, placenta encapsulator, and student midwife working and living in Central New Jersey.

My passion and love came after the birth of my first child eight years ago. At the tender age of 23, I planned an assisted homebirth. I didn't know much about the world, but I did know birthing in the hospital didn't feel right for me. The moment I pulled my daughter to my chest, my entire life changed.

I have been working within the birth community for over eight years now. I am an advocate for Midwifery led care for ALL birthing people, as well as wildly passionate about empowering people during their own birthing experiences  AND their journey into parenthood. I have learned and grown from each birth I have attended. I am humbled over, and over again, and I hope I never stop learning on this journey.

I have a passion for teaching, client education being one of my favorite things to do. I find great joy in giving parents a solid foundation as they enter parenthood, or the techniques needed to adjust to their growing family. I find that in teaching others we are forced to teach ourselves, and learning is a lifelong event.

When not attending births, encapsulating placentas, or teaching workshops, I am a wife, a mother, and an avid lover of all things outdoors.

I am deeply invested in cultivating knowledge from as many sources as possible in regard to the birth process. I invest as often as possible in different trainings to challenge and help me grow as a birth worker.

Philosophy of Care

Pregnancy and birth are normal physiological processes of the body during the childbearing years. A relationship between a midwife and client is best suited to help support a normal, low-risk pregnancy through education, a healthy lifestyle, and supportive care. Midwifery care allows care throughout pregnancy and childbirth to be family-centered, low interventive, and actively engaged in the shared-decision making process. Your health and the health of your baby will be monitored throughout pregnancy and birth, ensuring the process remains low-risk and complication-free. In a situation that is deemed outside of the category of low-risk, your midwife will consult with an appropriate care provider to best handle your particular situation. In the result of an emergency situation, your midwife will provide appropriate interventions within her scope of care, utilizing your consent and educational needs where appropriate. In all situations that allow for it, your midwife will help you make the best decision possible about the care for yourself and your baby.
