8 to 5- 8 proper marching steps for every 5 yards. Each proper size step is 22 1/2 inches
Auxiliary- the Flag and Majorettes of the Marching Blue
Battery- the drumline
Call Time- the time the director sets as the time you must be dressed and ready to warm up, perform, etc. This is NOT the time where you should be walking in the door.

DUE- An arranged time selected by the Director in which you are to turn something in.
Hemiola- a musical figure in which, typically, two groups of three beats are replaced by three groups of two beats, giving the effect of a shift between triple and duple meter.
LGAE- Large Group Adjudicated Event. This is Band "contest" and is held in March.
Lyre- the item that is attached to your instrument (or arm if you play flute) and holds your Flip-Folio
Mosey- to walk as a mass from one location to another while maintain our group shape but we are not marching in step.
Oblique- a diagonal move on the field
OMEA- Ohio Music Education Association
Parka- the name of the raincoat the Marching Blue wears
Practice- what you do AT HOME EVERY DAY to prepare for rehearsal: Learn YOUR music, Learn YOUR drill, Learn YOUR scales. Do YOUR homework.
Rehearsal- the time in which we rehearse as a band/ensemble at the high school: Put all of our music and drill together (putting it all into context). If someone is learning their part in rehearsal, then we cannot improve the actual music.
Rookies- the first year band Midview HS member
S&E- Solo and Ensemble Contest
Shako- the technical name for your marching hat
Slant- and 8 count move where 1 person marches forward 7 and marks time 1, the next forward 5 mark time 3, the next FWD 3 MT 5, the last FWD 1 MT 7
Truckies- the nickname of the members who will be assisting with loading and unloading the Blue Bus for away events
Turf Dirt- the little rubber chips we collect in our shoes from Ross Field
