Students who attend JVS will not have the same amount or full rehearsal time as everyone else. These students will have 275 less minutes of in-person literature instruction and drill instruction. With that said, it IS expected that this amount of time be made up at home. How do you do that?
Students who do not attend the in-school rehearsals are expected to do the following to be ready:
Buy the DrillBook Next app, or log in to the DrillBook Next website and research their individual drill for each song.
Download a metronome app and practice 20-30 minutes daily with your metronome. Recordings are posted on Classroom.
Download sheet music from Google Classroom.
Check Midview email regularly for updates.
Come to Evening Rehearsal prepared with music memorized and drill written in your music with YOU having researched the drill for at least 10 minutes a day.
You cannot come to rehearsal clueless. YOU must BE PREPARED (click on the link on HOW to be prepared)
Make sure to do a self check after our Evening Rehearsal on what you were weak with and become stronger in that.
DO NOT USE EVENING REHEARSAL TIME TO LEARN YOUR MUSIC AND YOUR DRILL. Instead have your music memorized beforehand and be familiar with your drill by writing it in your music. If you have this done BEFORE Evening Rehearsal, then you can focus on putting your drill in context with everyone else (thus the definition of a rehearsal)
Dedicate 10-30 minutes everyday to prepare and go over your music and drill for the upcoming rehearsal and performances.
Check your email often and read the weekly newsletter.
After marching season has concluded, you are not obligated to attend or perform at any events. You are more than welcome to perform at any marching events through the course of the year if you choose.
JVS students ARE permitted to attend our group trip every 4 years and will be expected to perform if traveling with us.
