Our Literacy-based STEAM Challenges will occur at least once each marking period. 

They are designed to develop and enhance our Watchung Whales'  Critical Thinking and Problem Solving strategies.

The STEAM Challege for our 1st graders and LLD students is to design and build a MONSTER TOY using only 1 empty paper towel roll, 1 pipe cleaner, 2 cotton balls, 2 circle stickers, and 12" of string. They were allowed to cut and alter any of the pieces to create their MONSTER TOY. These students were incredibly creative!!

Our 2nd Graders will be participating in an 8-week STEAM Challenge. 

The STEAM Challenge is based on the Biography of Anthony (Tony) Sarg. BALLOONS OVER BROADWAY: THE TRUE SORY OF THE PUPPETEER OF MACY'S PARADE. 

Each table group chose 3-4 cardboard boxes. Their STEAM Challenge, using critical thinking and problem-solving strategies (along with collaboration, creativity, and compromise) is to create a Parade Float of a storybook character.
