SGA Changes
Just to keep everyone updated, there will be some significant changes coming to SGA by Spring semester. If you have any suggestions on things you would like to see different in the way in which SGA functions or is structured please let me know ASAP. I have lots of ideas and I have heard a lot of feedback from people on things they would like to see but the more input the better. Reach out to me. My job is to represent you all and the only way I can effectively do so is with your input! Email me back if you want to know more!
Student Ambassador Program
This is a last minute reminder to apply to be a Student Ambassador for Middlebury’s Admissions. This program came from SGA last year and is being implemented now by the College. There is still time to apply! Applications are due at midnight: go/ambassadorapp
Winter Photos
Let it snow, let it snow, let it snow! If you look outside, there is a nice covering of snow on the ground. While it might be mildly inconvenient for traveling between classes, it is great for taking pictures!! If you want someone to take some pictures for you enjoying the snow, let me know and I am more than willing to find a time that works for both of us!
Wonnacott Website Make-Over
Some of you may have noticed that the Wonnacott Website has been… gulp… removed. Don’t worry! Just as the seasons are changing, and the weather is looking different, the WonnacottWebsite is also getting a little make over. I listened to some of the feedback I have received and taken into account some of the changes being made to the Commons System and now am making the website better and more interactive. Stay tuned for updates and hopefully a fresh new site to debut as of J-Term!
Gamut Room Café J-Term Pilot
There will be more to come about this but this has been an initiative I have been working on for part of this semester. Its goal is to increase interaction with the space.
ISO First Annual International Week
The International Students Organization (ISO) is hosting an event in conjunction with a plethora of other student organizations to bring about a more culturally aware and cognizant campus community! Please see the attached flyers for more information! There are tons of ways to get involved!
Diversifying the Faculty
Please join the Chief Diversity officer of Middlebury College, Miguel Fernandez, and the Middlebury SGA's Institutional Diversity Equity and Inclusion Committee as we hold conversations on how students can influence the diversification of the staff here during the upcoming hiring period. The meeting will be held in the Orchard Room at Hillcrest starting at 7:30 PM on Wednesday, October 16th.
Wonnacott Senator Updates
By Myles Maxie
So far being your senator has been an incredible experience. So far, I have accomplished a lot this semester in regard to getting the ball rolling on different initiatives I have heard matter to the masses of Wonnacott Commons. Here is a quick bullet-point list and if you would like more information about any of them, please let me know!
- Establishing open hours for discussion and having more dialogue with commons members daily
- Finding more ways to create open dialogue
- Looking at ways to use different campus spaces to better suit student needs
- Receiving textbook information at an earlier date
- Relooking at the way in which students receive course credit
- Working with the Co-Chair of Community Council to discuss campus accountability
If you would like to hear more, please reach out!
SGA Committee Applications
Are you interested in becoming involved in student government? Apply to be on one of SGA’s many cabinet committees! There is a lot that can be done within these committees, but not without the presence of individual voices. If you want more information about applying or about the various committees, visit go/joinSGA! The deadline for applications is 11:59 PM on September 19th, 2019.
Website Updates
There is an updated Poll of the Week with results that will be published in the monthly newsletter. Finally, be sure nominate your peers for the Wonny Spotlight! It’s a great way to let your peers know what is happening in the Middlebury community.
By Myles Maxie
Welcome to the 2019-2020 school year at Middlebury College! I hope everyone is off to a great start to their school year and making the most of the remaining summer weather.
I wanted to take the time to introduce myself and make myself available to get to know each of you. My name is Myles Maxie and I will be serving as the Wonnacott Senator for the 2019-2020 school year. My role involves serving as a representative for Wonnacott Commons in the Student Government Association. This means that I represent you!
I want to be the best representative that I can and because of that I need to hear from you all! What makes you feel great about going to Middlebury? What could be improved? What are experiences you have had here that you want to see more of? What do you feel Middlebury is missing? These are just examples of the type of things I would like to hear feedback on from you all!
All of that said, not only will I be your representative, but also another one of the many resources you have available on this campus if you ever need to talk or even something as simple as grabbing a meal! If you ever want to talk about anything, I am easy to reach by email or just stop me if you see me and we can chat!
