AmeriCorps Members' living stipend is not considered a salary making many members eligible for state benefit assistance, especially if you are the only person in your household (NOTE: benefits are determined by household income). Eligible members may qualify for SNAP benefits (purchase or grow your own food), cash assistance, healthcare coverage, utility support, and more. Eligibility Requirements: You must be considered low-income with assets totaling less than $15,000.

AmeriCorps offers childcare assistance paid directly to qualified childcare providers for all or part of the member’s childcare costs during active service through AmeriCorps. Eligibility is based upon household income and assets.

MCAN Support - List Trish Caldwell as the supervisor on your application. Trish will receive notification when your application has been submitted to certify you are serving with the College Completion Corps. (Note: if you apply through the paper application, you may be asked to send the certification paperwork to Trish.)
After successfully completing service, and enrolling in National Service Trust, you are eligible to receive the Segal AmeriCorps Education Award. You can use the award to repay qualified student loans and to pay current educational expenses at eligible institutions. Members may be eligible to have the repayment of their qualified student loans postponed while serving, this is referred to as forbearance. While interest may continue to accrue during service, if members successfully complete their service experience the National Service Trust will pay all or a portion of the qualified loan’s interest that accrued during service.

If you’re employed by a government or not-for-profit organization, you might be eligible for the PSLF Program. The PSLF Program forgives the remaining balance on your Direct Loans after you’ve made the equivalent of 120 qualifying monthly payments under an accepted repayment plan, and while working full-time for an eligible employer. (AmeriCorps is considered an eligible employer).

Baker College Graduate Studies Scholarship - up to $6,000/year to those who successfully complete their service
Saginaw Valley State University Scholarship - 15% tuition and mandatory fees to those who successfully complete their service
Western Michigan University - WMU Deparment of Educational Leadership, Research & Technology has partnered with MCAN to offer those who successfully complete their service priority admission, a waived application fee, and $500 scholarship
