ADA Accommodations
The Program agrees to be accessible to all persons with disabilities and provide reasonable accommodations to the known mental and physical disabilities of qualified members and applicants. The Program agrees to provide confidentiality and provide encouragement for “self-identifying” as a person with a disability. The member can request accommodations by completing the Accommodation Form located below.
If you have circumstances that are preventing you from meeting the requirements associated with the adviser position, please review the accommodation form and submit the form and supporting documents to the Accommodation File Upload Folder linked in the form. The AmeriCorps Program Director will review the form to make a determination regarding the accommodation request.
If you have questions about an accommodation or need support completing the form, please reach out to Trish Caldwell, Program Director, via email at trisha@micollegeaccess.org.
Tips for Navigating
We encourage you to submit the form even if you think approval is unlikely. Please ask for what you need, and don’t assume the answer will be “no.”
We encourage you to submit even if you’re not sure you’ll need to use the accommodation. It’s best to have it on file so we can implement it quickly if necessary.
A signed letter from a medical professional (Doctor, therapist, etc.) is needed.
Your supporting letter does not need to include specific details; we just need the doctor/therapist to share that, due to the support/treatment they’re providing, they are requesting that MCAN provides the specific accommodation needed to navigate your position.
Accommodation requests are confidential. All information will be shared with the AmeriCorps Program Director only. After reviewing the documents, the program director will schedule a meeting with the member to discuss a decision and plan. The program director will then share what accommodations the site supervisor and partnership manager need to work with the member to implement.
Members can use their own vehicle to travel to/from in-personal professional developments in Lansing. If members would prefer to use a rental vehicle through the MCAN Enterprise rental account, they must reach out to the program assistant (Trish is filling this responsibility right now) at least two weeks prior to the date of travel.
Additionally, some members may request approval to use public transportation (bus/train) due to driving limitations. In this instance, if the accommodation request is approved the program would reimburse for the bus/train ticket. In this case, the member should reach out to the program assistant (Trish is filling this responsibility right now) at least two weeks prior to the date of travel.
The program assistant will hold weekly, optional office hours. Members can attend these optional meetings to navigate approval for public transportation and/or to navigate renting a vehicle. The rental vehicle reservation must be made by the program assistant. Trish will hold these meetings until the program assistant position is filled.
