Snow peas are very nostalgic to me because they remind me of the time I spent with my grandma in her garden. I used to help her pick fresh peapods from the garden each summer. I was always eager to 'help', and would eat a few as payment while we were working. After, she would help me clean them and use them to make salad for dinner.
Snow peas are vegetables in the Fabaceae family, and are classified as angiosperm. There are many different varieties of pea, including snow and sugar which produce edible pods. The plant is very easily grown, and it is one of the oldest cultivated crops. The plant is domesticated, but the wild plant is native to Southern Europe. The pea plant has tall climbing stems with compound leaves with three pairs of leaflets. Along with the peapods, they produce two to three pink or white, butterfly-shaped flowers per stalk.
