In the next several months your child will be concluding his/her journey as an elementary student and will transition into a “middle schooler”. This is a very exciting time for your child, and I would like to take a few moments to provide you with some information about the band program at Miamisburg Middle School. Band is one of the most rewarding and fulfilling activities that a child can participate in, and I sincerely hope that each one of you will consider this with your student. All students are eligible to begin band in the sixth grade, and there is no previous knowledge necessary in order to join.
Today your child learned about our band program and tried out several instruments. Please take a few moments to discuss this with your child and go through the information included in the folder. He/she should have an instrument fitting ticket to indicate his/her instrument preference.
We start most instruments in sixth grade band including: Flute, Clarinet, Alto Saxophone, Trumpet, French Horn, Trombone, Baritone, Tuba, and Percussion. Students who are interested in percussion (drums/xylophone) must participate in an individual screening with our percussion specialist. If your child is interested in percussion please email Mrs. Bennett ASAP to schedule a ten minute appointment. We will be screening on March 10 and 12 in the evenings. No prior experience is necessary.
I am offering a Zoom meeting with one of our local music stores. This will be held on Wednesday, March 19 at 6:00 PM. I will send out the link as we near that date. I highly recommend you attend that meeting to learn more about securing an instrument for your child.
I’m excited to welcome a new group of band students to the Miamisburg Band program. We offer an inclusive program where all children are welcomed and taught by a team of experienced staff members. We have a highly successful middle school and high school program and provide multiple ensemble experiences for all band students.
