During the peak of summer it is hard to keep hydrated and fresh looking plants. Several trees are able to grow in this intense heat, such as indigenous tree and the eucalyptus tree (17). The climate change on the animals that are in Dubai are very brutal. Heatstroke is the most common way of death for animals in Dubai. Most dogs in Dubai have a cooling jacket and boots for their paws that they have to wear during the summer (18).
80% of the UAE is a desert ecosystem (20)
2.6% of the UAE is a mountain ecosystem (20)
A very tiny part of Dubai has a coastal and marine ecosystem (20)
Dubai is found right inside the Saharan Desert, and maintains that desert geography, while also containing a very large coast along the Persian gulf (23). Because of the surrounding desert, natural plants are sparse. The coast and human implemented plants have helped the actual city to see lots of greenery and many coastal animals such as various birds and plentiful sea fauna and flora (22).
A lack of drinkable water in the area has a huge influence on how life is able to develop in the area. Human development and urbanization of Dubai has the amount of change in the natural landscapes of the surrounding areas greatly. Whether it be something like fishing, or building a city, the area has slowly been fragmented from what it once was, drastically changing life in the area. (27)
Dubai's largest problem is water. The water of the Persian Gulf is undrinkable, meaning the water must be desalinated. Dubai and the Middle East have some of the largest carbon footprints. Large carbon emissions come from the energy used to desalinate water. (26) Dubai also has a lot of invasive species. Such as the Prosopis Julifora, this invasive species never stops growing. It is know as the "alien" plant. This invasive species also takes large amounts of water from underground (25). Dubai also struggles with air pollution. This is caused mostly by human activities such as transportation and industrial activities (28).
