Subject: Regarding HB 454 and HB 616

Dear Rep. [Representative's name],

I am [your name] from [your city/town], Ohio. I have heard of recent house bills 454 and 616 that have been introduced in the state House of Representatives. I am writing to you to ask you to please vote and/or advocate against them. 4.3% of adults in Ohio are LGBT+, with 30% of them raising children. If these bills pass, the state will be erasing both LGBT+ and civil rights history from our schools and potentially alienating LGBT+ and non-white youth from their peers.

Please remember that these LGBT+ children grow to be part of that 4.3% of LGBT+ Ohio adults. House Bill 454 acknowledges the high suicide rate of transgender youth, but has failed to recognize the proper cause. A lack of affirming healthcare and/or accepting environments is a common stressor that can lead to suicidal ideation. According to a Forbes article in 2021, recent legislation caused 94% of LBGTQ+ youth to experience a decline in their mental health.

I ask that you do research and meet with some of your LGBTQ+ constituents to understand the full impact this legislation would have on the community if it is passed. Again, I hope that you vote against and/or oppose this legislation.
